One place where I picked up some massive layout/graphic/tech skills (not to mention meeting some of the most interesting folks) was Vigilance. It was an indie newspaper in PT and the 1st place I started hanging out when I moved here.
The operative word is "was". The paper is now defunct. I hope that this site/movement/whatever can start to work some of that same magic. If not, it doesn't really matter as long as it happens somewhere, somehow.
If this channel isn't your bag, make your own space. Use RhodyRevolution as the model. I'd be happy to lay out the resources (all free btw) that we've used to make this network possible.
I loved Vigilance. Reading it was like a breath of fresh air. I'd love to get an online version up and running again... oh wait... that's kind of what we're doing here. Thanks for making it so, Rev!
Only in the future (a.k.a. now) could this have been possible. I mean, I can work with PHP now (a little) but why when these cool turkeys have done all the work for me.
Thanks for being the techxus (tech-nexus...i'm trying that one out) in PT for all these years. Oh, and for joining the good fight!
That's interesting what Frank said about Rhody Rev as the new Vigilance.
Wouldn't it be something if you were to get some kind of grant to be able to spend more time with Rhody Rev. and expand it into a publication - a weekly newsletter of sorts. Maybe the city of PT could help support Rhody Rev. since we are promoting and maybe ultimately directing business opportunities for young folks. I really think that PT council is looking for ways to promote the entrepreneurial thing, and we should be ready with a plan to present them, before they have the opportunity to exhaust that resource. In other words, while the council is preparing debate for how to drawing youth and families and small business (especially virtual businesses - no environmental impact) we are already together as an organization, with a plan of action. The Vigilance factor would be the way to keep everything together: a sleek web-site and newsletter that keeps you up to date with what is going on in the Rhody Rev. business movement, and at the same time providing entertainment, and other things, like personal ads.
I don't know, maybe I'm just rambling here
No (to the ramble), I totally get it and dig it. I'm all for it. I have a bunch of domain names that I could apply to this regardless of the support of RhodyRev (although it would be nice to have).
And yes, I like the idea of an online thing more, too, because seeing all the unused papers after the month was over was pretty disheartening and not very ecological.
And yes, striking while the iron is hot would be great.
And booyah, the entertainment thing would be key. That's what makes this site different from purely economical/political movements (and what made Vigilance so dynamic)
We should get together, preferably with some other folks that might be interested.
